Effective January 31, 2008, to cross back into the United States, you will need both a government issued photo ID AND Birth Certificate or a Passport. Going into Canada is less stringent, but you will need a photo ID.

To ride in both New Brunswick and Quebec provinces, you will need to register in that province. If you ride in both provinces, you will need to register in both provinces. They do not reciprocate with each other.

You may cross the International Bridge in Fort Kent, ME to Clair, NB. Both border crossings are open 24-7. To go into Clair, NB, take trail #17 off ITS 85/Heritage Trail, you will pass UNDER the International Bridge and loop back onto the roadway. You must pass on the paved travel portion of the bridge, and not on the sidewalk. New Brunswick Trail # 39 is located 500 feet behind the Maple Leaf Restaurant, directly across the road from the Canadian Customs house. You can then head west to St. Francois, New Brunswick (and Quebec) or east to Edmundston, New Brunswick.

Please note the 85D trail has been changed. It no longer goes west to St. Pamphile. It heads north from Allagash, ME to Estcourt Station,ME/Sully-Poheganamook, Quebec 44 miles one way. There is an American gas station in Estcourt open 9am-5pm Monday-Thursday, and Fridays 7am-3pm. They are not open Saturday nor Sunday. Their phone number is 418-859-1178. The alternate gas stations are Chamberlain’s Market and John’s Country Store, both on #92 in St. Francis, ME. Plan accordingly for fuel, as it could be a looongg walk!

New Brunswick trail passes are $35.00/1 day; $75.00/3 days; $115/7 days, and $180.00+14% HST ($205.20) for the season. Passes are available at Club ASNO checkpoint in Clair,NB and Val Lambert (Baker Brook),NB, Comfort Inn in Edmundston, NB, and on-line with the New Brunswick Federation of Snowmobile Clubs www.nbfsc.com.

Quebec Trail Passes can be purchased at Charest, INC (Ski-Doo dealer) in Sully/ Pheganamook/ Estcourt,ME region, 25 miles north of Fort Kent, ME. Their phone number is 418-893-5334. Quebec trail passes include mandatory no-fault insurance. Fees are as follows: $50/day, $150/7 days,Annual $225.00 before December 9, 2007; $250.00 after December 9, 2007, or if stopped on the trail by law enforcement, $300.00. Alternate registration is calling Quebec Federation of Snowmobilers (FCMQ) at 514-252-3076 and they will provide you the phone number and location OF A Quebec snowmobile club nearest to your destination to register you.
