RECREATIONAL TRAIL EMERGENCIES

The Fort Kent Fire and Rescue Department provides fire and rescue services to the recreational trails in Fort Kent, New Canada, St. John, and Wallagrass.  We also assist with other towns like Allagash and in unincorporated areas near Fort Kent when requested.

We are equipped with a Snowmobile and Snowbulance which is a pod towed behind the snowmobile which can transport medical personnel directly to the scene of an emergency on the trails.  It is large enough to transport a patient with a paramedic or EMT to an ambulance on the nearest road.

In summer months the skis on the Snowbulance are replaced with wheels and we have an ATV that pulls it on the trails.  The Snowbulance, sled and ATV are transported to the closest trail access in a trailer dedicated to trail rescue.

Please be especially careful during the early season as there are many hazards just under the new snow. Hidden hazards can be dangerous not only to your snowmobile but occupants as well!

Please pay attention to warning signs and directions along the trail.  Treat the land you are riding on with the utmost respect.  Remember you are a guest on someone else’s private land!

CAUTION – If you decide to venture out on frozen bodies of water please be very cautious. Always avoid the stream inlet areas and dam areas of any lakes and ponds. If any doubt exists about the safety of the ice DON’T GO! Wet clothing in freezing temperatures can be lethal!
